Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, evidence-based strategy for engaging individuals and resolving ambivalence. It’s centered on the idea that each client is the expert of their own life and already has the answers they need. They just need a little help uncovering them.
In this training, you’ll learn how to use affirmation and reflections to quickly get on the same page as your clients. You’ll also learn to engage clients with compassion, critical listening skills, and strategies to help them uncover their own motivation toward change and move through the critical stages of change.
In this training you will learn these Motivational Interviewing Skills:
PACE: Partnership, Acceptance, Compassion, Evocation
OARS: Open-ended Questions, Affirmations, Reflections, Summaries
DARN-CAT: Desire, Ability, Reasons, Need, Commitment, Actuation, Taking Steps
Through the use of practical, interactive activities, you will practice these skills as you learn to identify and emphasize change talk and minimize sustain talk. You’ll explore specific techniques to help your clients get clarity.

Trauma First Aid for Peers is an interactive, experiential training for those who provide peer services and their supervisors. This training is appropriate for those working in a substance use, mental health, life coaching and medical settings. Peer supervisors will gain coaching skills to use with peers around Trauma Informed Care principles. Up to 85% of individuals with substance use disorder suffer from trauma in their past. Trauma can be a trigger to burnout, poor boundary setting and vicarious trauma. Trauma First Aid gives you the skills to navigate these situations, make good referrals, & practice good self-care.
ASAP-NYCB approved for 6 hours (Trauma 101) and 7 hours (Trauma First Aid) CARC elective and CRPA/CARC renewal.

Cultural Humility: A Journey to Improved Outcomes training was developed by CCSI And OASAS 12-16 hours. 2 and 3-hour miniseries on Implicit Bias, Racism, and Microaggressions. This course is a journey on exploration of who we are, what motivates us and those we serve as well as where to best place our curious nature in growing an appreciation for those we serve as cultural beings. This will explore trauma-informed coaching through a cultural lens and Motivational Interviewing as a strategy for cross-cultural engagement and community in order to build rapport and trust. This course includes independent study and synchronous training.
